I applied and was approved for a loan of $1100. The explanation of the payback plan was extremely vague but I was explicitly told that the finance charge was $330 and would be my first biweekly payment.

I initially agreed to the loan terms and conditions, accepted the loan over the phone, that I was emailed a generic outline of the payback plan. It stated that the loan term was 7 1/2 months long and that my payment of $330 biweekly would continue until the principal balance is paid off. That doesn't sound too bad, sounds like it would be paid off in about two months time. There was one last sentence that changes everything and it reads as follows; only your last 3 payment are applied to the principal balance, your other payment are interest only.

I immediately called to verify what I was reading and comfirmed with a representative that this agreement is for 15 payments of $330 biweekly. I stated that the loan has not been funded and I would like to cancel. The rep. Stated that the money had not been sent from them yet and that he has went ahead and canceled everything for me.

Only time will tell if I am actually going to be charged for anything this far. This company is predacious in there approvals and I will not reccomend them to anyone for any reason

I have a complaint also. Could you please add your complaint to Google under the reviews for AWL?

I'm really frustrated with this company and would like to see 100 bad reviews on Google by the end of this week.

When this company pops up in a Google search, other consumers will be able to see these bad reviews. Help me if you can!!!

I've read many of these negative reviews. You people need to remember who your borrowing money from.

I've also used awl and was quite happy with them. Although the interest is crazy high, I had no choice but to use them. Let's be honest, if we were all people with good credit we would take out a conventional loan from a bank and pay low interest over 2-3 years to pay it back. Online cash loan providers are here to serve people with poor to fair credit who can't get a regular loan.

It's not their fault if you don't read the fine print and ask questions. If you only pay the minimum amount, you won't touch your principal for almost 6 months.

I took out a loan with American Web Loan and paid it all back including the outrageous interest rate so my credit would not be impacted. And then for 2013 tax purposes they mailed me a 1099 that indicated that my debt was cancelled, however I am liable to pay taxes on the amount.

So my credit shows a charge off of $1,600 (that I paid) and now it has been recorded that I owe the tax on the amount to the IRS.

So perhaps it doesn't matter if you pay back the loan and the crazy interest rate and fees.

They do not apply any of your repayment back to the principle. A 400.00 loan turned into.

A 1500.00 loan. Never was up front with details. Horrible business practices. It's just another shady company.

When you go and check up on your loan online extremely little information is given. This is a extremely more frustrating when you pay back on time and none of the money and I do mean none is going to help payoff the loan only to intrap you to pay back 3x what the orginal was worth.

These are sharks in lamb clothing. Do not use this service.

My daughter with my permission have taken loans from AWL & she handle them, this last loan she took out I'm handling since she's out of the country, I find out that there are multiple payments of $270 which will reach over $3000 before any amount will be applied to the principal loan of $1000, this can't be legal, is it?

I will be contacting the better business Bureau ,I was informed that there was a $270 interest fee & understood the remaining payments went towards the principal, the interest amount on this can't be legal, & I'll have to have this investagated

Same complaint as others I have seen....Charging $150.00 every two weeks for borrowing the loan amount...actually I am paying $300.00 every month for a $500.00 loan. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

CSR stated that it was in the paperwork...bs seriously who reads the paperwork don't they get paid for mentioning that information...would be no one borrowing money if that was mentioned up front!

WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN OR WILL I RECOMMEND TO ANYONE...COMPLETE RIP OFF. I hate to imagine how much money I have actually paid this company a *** of a lot more than 500.00

Anonymous is correct. This is just another example of the Obama Generation...millions of people so dumbed-down by our media and public schools that they can't even think for themselves anymore, or take responsibility for anything.

I called today to find out if my last payment was paid, on a $500.00 loan borrowed in December! In return was told that my 150.00 payment for the last 5 months was just paying interest!!!

I had no idea!!!!! I was told that I would be paying $150.00 for borrowing the 500! This is clearly a RIP OFF SCAM!! I'm very upset!, You should explain the loan better!

I got a call today from a "locator" stating that I am going to be served unless I contacted Global which claimed to be a leagal firm not a collection agency. When I contacted them they gave me the typical *** about a loan that I took out on AUG.

5 2013. Which was a pay day btw, for $600.00. I tired to explain to them that there was no way that I did that for I had just got a loan for over $3000.00 from a company and it wasnt AWL. I asked for information like the phone number for this company that I NEVER heard of until today.

They wouldnt provided it and that they now "own" the claim. That was a dumb move on their part.. They kept asking me to take care of it when I finally said "do you not understand the words that are coming out of my mouth" I DID NOT TAKE OUT THIS LOAN! they didnt care.

Finally ended with DO what you have to. If getting served is the only way I can get the information that I need to investigate this BRING IT!!!! YOU ARE GOING DOWN!!!

LOL LMAO.

Thanks for that information. However, the locator actually called me back to ask if I spoke to Web Loans.

When I told him that I did and that I said I also know that there are hundreds of complaints against this company and that he works for or represents scammers and thieves.

Needless to say I have not heard back from Web Loans or a locator or anyone from Web Loans. Oh and I dont think that anyone has been arrested as they claim would happen to me, that is unless it was for tens of thousands of dollars....

Also, when you sign the letter, do not use your normal signature. Bottom-feeder debt collectors and scammers are known for taking signatures from correspondence and creating fake paperwork to support their scams.

Anonymous
#806790

Do NOT ask for written verification. All you will get is a a piece of paper where they "verify" that you owe the debt.

What you want to do is send them a VALIDATION of debt letter. In this letter you are denying you owe the money and you demanding that they validate the debt, that they prove you owe what they say you do by providing copies of all paperwork where you took out this loan. They won't be able to provide it and should leave. Also, make sure you tell them in the letter they are to contact you via mail only.

Send your correspondence via trackable method, i.e.

fedex, ups, certified. Examples of the verbiage for a VALIDATION letter are easily found online.

Ask for written verification of the debt. You are entitled to it by federal law.

Any legitimate collection agency will send it.

They threaten to lodge criminal charges against consumers who fail to pay these alleged debts. But the “collectors” have no intention of taking—or even the standing or authority to take—legal action against these consumers.

Other times, they pretend to be attorneys or to work for law firms when they do not.

They frequently use abusive or profane language during these telephone calls.

That’s prohibited under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

YOU NEED TO CONTACT YOUR LOCAL FTC THEY WILL HELP YOU.

So American Web Loan has already been paid there $500 plus got an extra $700 out of me. Nope! Not gonna happen. You cannot do business like that. Its UNETHICAL!! I am disputing ALL charges from this company through my bank and then I'm closing my account and reporting them to the FTC.gov

I took out $700 loan from AWL. The lady told me that "the cost for a $700 loan is $210." I have the Email word for word.

They took the $210 out of my account and I set up withdrawl to pay off the $700 balance. I noticed that they added another $210 to the $700. I have done further research and noticed online that they charge you over and over the "payment" of loan. So, to deviate from all the BS I ahve closed my bank account and I found they are not even licensed in the State Of MN.

They are not legal to conduct business here, their loan limits are too high, as are their interest rates. i am contacting my Attourney general.

After you apply online @ American Web Loan , they call your phone very quick. The representative was very fast in stating the terms of payment.

Because I BADLY need the money, I borrowed $500 in 2013. The interest rate was not clearly stated. I was paying $150 every 2 weeks. They took a total of $450 + $500 principal in just SIX weeks.

I am really, really upset. PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE QUICK APPROVAL OF A SMALL AMOUNT BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST TOO MUCH!

They are not helping people but they're making the borrowers have more debt.

American Web Loan - Read the Terms People . . .

Honestly, do people seriously NOT read the terms for this type of loan??? While taking out this type of loan is not an ideal situation, it will work if you are simply running short and need extra cash to get you to the next paycheck . . . emergency expenses, etc. I just took out a $400 loan which will cost me an extra $120 when I pay it back in full on my next pay day. The $120 interest fee is expensive, but worth it. Of course, in reviewing the terms of my loan, I could take six months or more to pay back my loan and pay back thousands of dollars . . . NOT. PLEASE take the time to understand what you are signing up for or you will be paying back a ridiculous amount of money.

I lost my job in 2011., and was out of work for 6mo. I had to take out a loan to help with rent and bills.

These people took so many payments out of me I had to close my account., I assumed It was enough to pay them off three times over. Now almost 3yrs. later a company called United is saying they represent awl and want 880.00 from me saying I defaulted and they will serve me with papers to take me to court if I don't pay!! They won't email me with an offer to settle, yet they will take my c/c info, my home address, my work place info though no problem and will email me saying they are paid in full after I give them money!!!

These people are jerks., do they think I am just willing to give someone my hard earned money and don't even know who they are???, NO!!!

In times of trouble awl did not help in the long run. What should I do??
